In the largest incoming cohort in memory, five new members have joined the San Joaquin Council of Government (SJCOG) Board of Directors

Filling vacancies created by the midterm elections are:

“This is a great board,” San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors Chair and SJCOG Chair Robert Rickman said in introducing the new and returning board members. “Of all the committees I’m on, this is one of my favorites. You guys will have a blast.”

SJCOG Executive Director Diane Nguyen also welcomed the new and returning board members.

“You’re going to have a very exciting and robust 2023 year working on regional transportation and policies,” Nguyen told the new and returning board members. “And we as a team at the agency are very, very thrilled to have you join the Board of Directors.”

SJCOG is a joint-powers authority comprised of elected representatives from San Joaquin County and the cities of Stockton, Lodi, Manteca, Tracy, Ripon, Escalon and Lathrop. The 12-member board includes three members each from the county and Stockton, and one each from the other cities in the county. There are also nonvoting representatives from Caltrans District 10, San Joaquin Regional Transit District, and Port of Stockton.

Lincoln, Warmsley, Villapudua, Ding and Khan join a board responsible for policy decisions for SJCOG, the region’s designated Council of Governments, Regional Transportation Planning Authority, Metropolitan Planning Organization, and Airport Land Use Commission. It also serves as the board of directors for SJCOG Inc., SJCOG’s nonprofit arm responsible for implementing the San Joaquin County Multi-Species Habitat Conservation and Open Space Plan.

Board members participate in a range of planning and advocacy programs such as the San Joaquin Valley Regional Policy Council, the Megaregion Working Group, and SJCOG’s San Joaquin One Voice® advocacy program to garner federal funds for projects that are significant to the region.

Meetings are generally at 4 p.m. on the fourth Thursday of each month. The meetings and workshops are open to the public. Board agenda information can be found in the electronic agenda center. Those interested in SJCOG Board and committee meetings can subscribe and manage Notify Me notifications.

SJCOG is the planning, financing and coordinating agency for the San Joaquin region overseeing transportation, housing and habitat conservation. SJCOG’s broad range of responsibilities include managing the Measure K half-cent sales tax for transportation improvements in San Joaquin County, collecting county demographic and economic data, airport land use planning, and regional air quality. SJCOG partners with a network of local governments, private organizations and community groups to deliver a variety of local, state and federal programs that support the streets, roads, highways, public transit, and other transportation resources that help San Joaquin County residents get where they need to be. It is also responsible for assigning each city and the county its fair share of affordable housing.
