[ARCHIVED] Walk, run, bike to help SJCOG update countywide Regional Active Transportation Plan

The graphics in English and Spanish include the text on filling out a survey.

The San Joaquin Council of Governments (SJCOG) is updating the Regional Active Transportation Plan and input from the public – people who walk, bike or simply want better options – is crucial.

The plan is a comprehensive vision for a network of trails, bike lanes, sidewalks, and other features that connect people to where they need to go by safely walking, bicycling, rolling by wheelchair, and scootering. SJCOG is using a Senate Bill 1 Sustainable Communities grant to find improvements and strategies that encourage and streamline new bike and pedestrian projects in San Joaquin County.

Goals of the updated include:

  • Improve regional connectivity between communities for recreation, economic development, and better health.
  • Create a network of safe and inviting sidewalks, bikeways, and trails to encourage people to walk and bike.
  • Reduced air pollution by encouraging walking and biking as an alternative to driving.
  • Create better connections to transit, especially where there is limited access to transportation options.
  • Unlock additional opportunities for project funding and construction through grants, partnerships, and collaboration among agencies.

A partner advisory group is made up of staff from all SJCOG member jurisdictions and the San Joaquin Regional Transit District and will guide the plan’s development to ensure local priorities and projects needs are met.

Here are two ways to get involved:

Complete Our Survey: Tell us about your experiences with walking and biking infrastructure in San Joaquin County. The survey takes just 5 minutes and will help SJCOG set future priorities: bit.ly/4qNmjJW. The deadline for the survey Dec. 12.

Join Our Virtual Community Workshop:
📅 Date: Dec. 3
🕕 Time: 6-7 p.m.
📋Register: bit.ly/49GXp8x.

Participants will be able to connect with SJCOG staff, ask questions, and share their vision for a more walkable, bikeable, and rollable community.

Feedback from the survey, virtual workshop and other future events will help SJCOG set priorities, improve safety, and create better connections throughout the region. This is an opportunity to make a difference and everyone is welcome to participate.
