Each year, pursuant to state law, as the Regional Transportation Planning Agency the San Joaquin Council of Governments (SJCOG) must identify any Unmet Transit Needs that may exist in San Joaquin County. If needs are found, a further determination must be made to determine whether those needs are reasonable to meet. State law requires SJCOG to ensure that reasonable needs are met before Transportation Development Act (TDA) funds are allocated to local jurisdictions for non-transit purposes.
This year’s assessment involved an extended outreach process in collaboration with the San Joaquin Regional Transit District (RTD) and the San Joaquin Regional Rail Commission (SJRRC). The various community outreach efforts this year produced a total of 3,161 comments on transit service from specific individuals.
The Public Review Draft FY 18/19 Unmet Transit Needs Report was released on April 30, 2018, and comments will be accepted until May 28, 2018. Submit comments in writing to Rob Cunningham, Senior Regional Planner.
The Board of Directors will take action on on the 2018-19 Unmet Transit Needs Report at their June meeting.
