The San Joaquin Council of Governments (SJCOG) and the Housing Authority of the County of San Joaquin (HACSJ) have forged a partnership to locate carsharing stations at some of the housing authority’s sites. The electric cars and charging stations are part of SJCOG’s Stockton Mobility Collective.
SJCOG and HACSJ have already worked together on Stockton Mobility Collective, including the Rise
‘N’ Ride event showing off the carsharing and bikesharing programs at the housing authority’s Conway Homes. Now, Conway Homes residents will take part in early testing of the carshare program with other locations to come later. SJCOG and HACSJ will formally introduce the opportunity for testing to Conway Homes residents and media at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 25, at 741 Flint Ave., Stockton.
“Locating this nonprofit carsharing program at our housing sites is a way to provide our residents meaningful options in on-demand transit,” HACSJ Executive Director Peter Ragsdale said. “Our residents will be able to test and join the program and have a green, affordable transportation alternative to more traditional options. We’re reducing emissions and bringing a mission-driven nonprofit to where they’re needed most.”
The partnership is also beneficial to SJCOG.
“Partnerships are crucial to making the Stockton Mobility Collective a success,” SJCOG Executive Director Diane Nguyen said. “Having this partnership with HACSJ is very important for expanding our reach to the people who will gain the most from the services provided by the Stockton Mobility Collective. We’re looking forward to a wonderful collaboration with the housing authority.”
Other Stockton Mobility Collective partners include:
- The San Joaquin Regional Transit District and Mobility Development Foundation, a nonprofit bikesharing program, are managing the bikeshare program.
- Mobility Development Partners and Míocar are managing the carshare program.
- The UC Davis Institute for Transportation Studies and Sigala Inc. are working to expand the Vamos Mobility app for trip planning and payment via EZHub in the app.
- The Institute for Local Government is leading the effort to engage the community about Stockton Mobility Collective.
- Mobility Development Partners is working to develop a workforce development program that will train young adults for jobs to maintain and repair the electric cars and electric pedal-assist bicycles, and related fields of shared mobility fleet management and operations.
SJCOG’s Stockton Mobility Collective aims at improving transportation options for residents who are looking for clean, affordable ways to travel to jobs, schools, health care, grocery stores and other key destinations. The project will provide access to nonprofit electric bikesharing and carsharing programs and incentives to reduce the cost burden of transportation where the need is greatest.
The Stockton Mobility Collective is funded by a Sustainable Transportation Equity Project (STEP) Implementation Grant from the California Air Resources Board (CARB). The project is part of California Climate Investments (CCI), a statewide initiative that puts billions of Cap-and-Trade dollars to work reducing greenhouse gas emissions, strengthening the economy, and improving public health and the environment — particularly in disadvantaged communities. Moving California, part of CCI, focuses on increasing education and awareness of clean transportation options, while emphasizing program successes and providing guidance on how California’s communities and residents can both benefit and access clean transportation opportunities.
