[ARCHIVED] Pacific Avenue Resurfacing Project gets underway

Orange construction sign indicating road work ahead

Stockton's Pacific Avenue/Thornton Road is a high traffic street that has not been resurfaced in over 17 years.  That all changes this week as the Pacific Avenue Resurfacing Project gets underway.

The project, which is funded from the federal Regional Surface Transportation Program, will make improvements to 2.3 miles of roadway by resurfacing Pacific Avenue from March Lane to Hammer Lane and Thornton Road from Hammer Lane to El Camino Avenue.  These are high traffic areas with poor pavement conditions.

Work on the project is being done by Granite Construction Company.  As construction progresses, signage will be placed to notify drivers of changing conditions and workers in the area.  The anticipated completing is Fall 2017 (weather permitting).

Some travel tips to help during the construction:

  • All businesses will remain open during construction; watch for signage and vehicles when entering and exiting.
  • During the day, only one lane or turn lane will be closed, in either direction, at a time.
  • Allow extra time for travel and anticipate some traffic delays while work is occurring.
  • Speed limits will be reduced to 25 mph during construction; slow down for the cone zone.
