Volunteers from throughout the county will advise San Joaquin Regional Housing Fund Inc. as the nonprofit moves to help preserve affordable housing and stimulate new housing starts in the region. The members of the San Joaquin Regional Housing Fund Advisory Committee were nominated by San Joaquin Council of Governments (SJCOG) jurisdictions and approved at the SJCOG Board’s December meeting. Committee members will provide input on project funding, program design, and long-term planning. Three nonvoting technical members from such fields as housing finance, development, and nonprofits will round out the 12-member committee. Those appointments are expected in the coming months.
SJCOG completed a housing needs assessment and feasibility study for creating a housing fund, a flexible way to raise money to preserve and build affordable housing. The needs assessment and feasibility study found that using a coordinated regional approach was important to confronting affordable housing challenges. The regional advisory committee is part of that approach.
SJCOG formed San Joaquin Regional Housing Fund Inc. and advisory committee to help confront the affordable housing crisis in the San Joaquin region and expand housing opportunities for San Joaquin County households with extremely low-to-moderate incomes. The SJCOG Board also sits as the housing fund board.
The committee will meet at least quarterly and people interested can subscribe for email notifications to receive updates on meetings.
