Measure K Renewal
On November 7, 2006 San
Joaquin County
voters decided to
extend Measure K for an additional 30 years. The Measure K Renewal is
estimated to generate $2.552 billion for the
transportation programs identified
in the Measure K Renewal
Expenditure Plan. The categorical allocations of the
Measure K Renewal include Local Street Repairs and Roadway Safety (35%),
Congestion Relief projects (32.5%), Railroad Crossing
Safety projects (2.5%), and Passenger Rail, Bus and Bicycles (30%) which
includes dedicated funding for bus rapid transit and safe routes to
schools.
The Measure K Renewal Expenditure Plan was developed as a result of a
3-year collaboration involving local jurisdictions, community groups,
business groups, and the general public of San Joaquin County. The plan
provides a wide range of comprehensive transportation improvements
including:
• State highway improvements
• Special transportation services for seniors and persons with
disabilities
• Altamont Commuter Express rail service expansions
• Construction and maintenance of city streets and county roads
• Construction of railroad crossing safety improvements
• Economic incentives to encourage smart growth in San Joaquin County
As a result of the renewal of Measure K, San Joaquin County will
maintain the ability to finance needed
transportation
projects and services throughout the county. Measure K will continue to make
highways safer, relieve congestion and make additional transportation
options available for seniors and persons with disabilities. The Measure K Renewal will make
improvements on every major highway in San Joaquin County and provided
millions of dollars to local cities and the county for street and road
improvements.
