PROGRAMS & PROJECTS > SJ Valley Regional Blueprint

Get Involved

We strongly encourage you to add your name and contact information to our Blueprint Interest List.  We will contact you by e-mail or mail when workshop opportunities are coming up in your community. These workshops are your chance to help shape the future of your community and the region! We need to hear from you!
If you have any questions or would like more information on the Blueprint Project in San Joaquin County, please contact Anthony Zepeda, Phone: (209)-468-3913.

Vision & Values - Community Workshops
The first round of community workshops will establish the vision and values for the future of the San Joaquin County, your community, and the resources you believe are essential to sustain a vital quality of life. At the workshop you will:

  • Discuss the important attributes of your community and the   County that you value most;
  • Engage in exercises to gain a regional and valley-wide perspective of the challenges that come with accommodating new growth (such as mobility, traffic congestion, air quality, housing, job opportunities, preservation of agriculture and open space);
  • Have an opportunity to analyze what the future may look like
    if development continues down the current path ('Business as Usual')
  • Identify and prioritize the values that will form the foundation of the Blueprint vision;
  • Learn about ways your voice can be heard throughout the Blueprint process.

Blueprint Leadership Workshop - Working Meetings
A Blueprint Leadership Group (BLG) made up of people representing different interest groups (such as environmental, economic development, farming, housing, public transit, transportation) will conduct a series of working meetings to use the Blueprint vision and values developed by the public in the first round of community workshops to formulate a vision statement, goals and objectives and develop four (4) alternative Blueprint scenarios.

The BLG working meetings are open to the public and you are encouraged to attend. Results of each meeting will be posted on the SJCOG website. All interested parties will receive updates via email.

Establishing the Blueprint - Community Workshops
A second round of community workshops will be held to arrive at a set of land use/transportation/environmental Blueprint features that best responds to the challenges of population growth and meets the expressed core values and vision for San Joaquin County. At the workshop you will:

  • Evaluate various Blueprint scenarios and their effect on transportation mobility, air quality, agriculture, and housing affordability, among other measures;
  • Learn about and apply key ideas that will be tested in these scenarios (such as mixing of land uses; compact development
    and infill development; different types of housing; vital town centers; preservation of open space, farmland, natural beauty and critical environmental areas; walking and biking facilities, and the amount and types of public transit);
  • Engage in a series of exercises that will show you how each scenario varies in land use, transportation, and environmental
    factors so that you can help select the Blueprint scenario that best meets your preferred vision for the future of San Joaquin County

Blueprint Leadership Workshop - Final Working Meetings
The Blueprint Leadership Group will use the input gathered in the second round of community workshops to arrive at a consensus on a Blueprint for San Joaquin County. The Blueprint Leadership Group will also refine the goals and objectives, guiding principles, performance measures and indicators associated with the public’s
preferred Blueprint scenario.
