San
Joaquin Valley Regional Blueprint
An important and historic opportunity for San Joaquin
County residents is now available through the San Joaquin Valley
Blueprint Process—to weigh in on how we want our region to grow
and prosper in the future to the year 2050. We have the chance
to help shape the future of where we live—for the benefit of our
children, our grandchildren, and ourselves—by planning NOW for
what is to come.
Planning for the Future of our Region
Accommodating a projected ONE MILLION more people by the
year 2050 presents many challenges that we need to work
together to address, including:
- How should we grow?
- Where should we grow?
- How will we travel around the region?
- How will growth affect our environment?
- How will growth impact our overall quality of life?
The Blueprint Process The Blueprint process started in 2005
with an historic commitment from the Governor to support efforts to
protect and revitalize the San Joaquin Valley with “The California
Partnership for the San Joaquin Valley.” This was followed by
unprecedented regional cooperation by the Valley’s eight counties to
participate in an effort to plan for the future of the region.
Blueprint Workshops
The San Joaquin Council of Governments (SJCOG) held two rounds of sponsoring a series
of workshops and working groups to
allow the public and interested stakeholders the opportunity to develop
the Blueprint for San Joaquin County. The interactive public workshops
are designed to allow you to “roll up your sleeves” and express your
opinions regarding the future of San Joaquin County.
Meaningful Results
The major San Joaquin County Blueprint outcomes will include:
- A Vision Statement for future growth through the year 2050;
- A set of Guiding Principles that represent the preferred
Transportation/Land Use/Environmental Blueprint Scenario;
- Blueprint Implementation Strategies;
- Measurable objectives to track progress towards achieving the
Blueprint Vision.
Once adopted, community leaders and elected officials in San Joaquin
County can use the Blueprint to help guide their decision-making on
important regional planning efforts. Your involvement is
critical!
The San Joaquin Valley Blueprint will develop a regional framework for
a preferred growth scenario from now to the year 2050.
Partners
The San Joaquin Valley Blueprint Planning Process is a joint initiative of
the Councils of Governments representing each of the region's eight
counties, the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District and the
Great Valley Center.
