San Joaquin Valley Regional Blueprint

An important and historic opportunity for San Joaquin
County residents is now available through the San Joaquin Valley
Blueprint Process—to weigh in on how we want our region to grow
and prosper in the future to the year 2050. We have the chance
to help shape the future of where we live—for the benefit of our
children, our grandchildren, and ourselves—by planning NOW for
what is to come.

Planning for the Future of our Region
Accommodating a projected ONE MILLION more people by the
year 2050 presents many challenges that we need to work
together to address, including:

  • How should we grow?
  • Where should we grow?
  • How will we travel around the region?
  • How will growth affect our environment?
  • How will growth impact our overall quality of life?

The Blueprint Process
What is the Blueprint? It is a preferred regional transportation, land use, and environmental vision that responds to the many challenges
associated with population growth.

Blueprint Workshops
The San Joaquin Council of Governments (SJCOG) will be sponsoring a series of workshops and working groups to allow the public and interested stakeholders the opportunity to develop the Blueprint for San Joaquin County. The interactive public workshops are designed to allow you to “roll up your sleeves” and express your opinions regarding the future of San Joaquin County. Everyone’s opinion matters! You will have a unique opportunity to work with other residents and community leaders to establish the Blueprint for the future of your community and our region.

Workshops will be held at convenient and accessible locations throughout San Joaquin County, with refreshments provided.  Accommodations will be available for those individuals who have physical, transportation, or language interpretation needs (and there will also be at least one workshop held in Spanish). Please let us know in advance if you need assistance to attend. We want you to enjoy your workshop experience.

Results of each meeting will be posted on the SJCOG website. All interested parties will receive updates via email.

Meaningful Results
The major San Joaquin County Blueprint outcomes will include:

  • A Vision Statement for future growth through the year 2050;
  • A set of Guiding Principles that represent the preferred Transportation/Land Use/Environmental Blueprint Scenario;
  • Blueprint Implementation Strategies;
  • Measurable objectives to track progress towards achieving the Blueprint Vision.

Once adopted, community leaders and elected officials in San Joaquin County can use the Blueprint to help guide their decision-making on important regional planning efforts. Your involvement is
critical!

All residents and representatives of the general public, business, agriculture, environmental and community groups, local elected officials, and planning and public works staff are encouraged
to attend the workshops and provide their input. Every effort will be made to involve a wide cross-section of the community, including residents of all income levels, ages, and different languages. We
especially encourage young people to come—after all, they are the ones who will be living in our vision for the future!

Partners
The San Joaquin Valley Blueprint Planning Process is a joint initiative of the Councils of Governments representing each of the region's eight counties, the San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District and the Great Valley Center.
