Census 2000 Datasets
Every household in the country receives one of two census
questionnaires: a short form or a long form. The data included in each
Summary File depends upon which questionnaire it was compiled from. This
data is the most commonly used census data.
Summary Files (SF) 1 & 3
SF1 contains the most geographically detailed information (down to
the block level). It comes from the “short form” or 100 percent count
questionnaire. This file contains information about the population by
ethnicity, age, and household composition, as well as housing
information such as tenure and occupancy status.
SF3 data is from the “long form” or sample questionnaire (1 in 6
households received it). It is less geographically detailed (down to the
block group level), but more comprehensive in terms of information
available. In addition to the all the information collected from the
short form, it has data such as marital status, income, and educational
attainment.
